"Michael Paik teaches the culinary program through Community Action Napa Valley, or CANV, which gives homeless and low income people an introduction to the food service industry.
Give a man a fish and he eats one time. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
Thinking along similar lines, Michael Paik, a veteran chef, has committed himself to teaching kitchen skills to homeless and other low-income people in Napa County who are having trouble feeding themselves, not to mention putting a roof over their heads. When the students graduate from Paik’s three-month culinary course, they are equipped to get self-supporting, entry level jobs in Napa Valley restaurants."

As a proud member of the CANV Board, I've had the opportunity to see both sides of the services we offer; as a client being once homeless, and now serving on the board representing the low income constituency. It's heartwarming and exciting to see the efforts Chef Michael and his students have accomplished! It's indeed well deserved recognition and praise!
